b-positive's website! NEW!!!

It's time to get to know another brilliant graphic-visual designer and illustrator from Greece. He is young at age but with lot of experience because he used to be part of the poordesigner studio until this summer.

After many years in that team he decided to go on his own under the nickname b-positive.
Watching his works you could see clearly that he knows well to manipulate typography, comps, colour and his illustrations have a unique character.
There is not much for me to say because his work speaks for itself. Enjoy b-postive!

Create your own font!

Yes that's the name! Creating a font never was that easy. You only have to use your imagination.

This website helps you to create fonts that you can use for your projects and be unique for your clients. You can create only the characters you need for the project and if you want you can go back and create the rest of the characters. You can also create glyphs.

European Union is looking for a new symbol

The familiar symbol with 12 stars

1955 German designer Arsen Heitz design the circle with twelve stars to represent the symbol of the European Council. After 1986 this symbol have been used to represent everything that has to do with the European Council or Union. The circle gives a sense of unit and equality and the number twelve gives a sense of perfection (like 12 months, hours etc).
After so many years a lot of things changed. First the European Council changed its name to European Union and of course now the countries that participates are more than twelve. What we call European Union now seems complete and it needs a new symbol for that.
So the newly established Dutch foundation Design De Haag (info) asks from the European designers to send in their design for the new symbol for Europe. 12 submissions will be selected by an international jury and will print on flags. These flags will be shown during the first edition of Design and Government 2010.

Vladimir Radibratovic // illustration & calligraphy

Today i am going to write for a person that i was admiring a lot and now that i' ve met him and taught me few about calligraphy i admire him more. It's not only that he is good in what he does but it's the way it treats you that make him so lovely. From my point of view is one of the best illustrators i know and of course he knows so many things about calligraphy. I think his arm end to pen not fingers :).

The man i am describing called Vladimir Radibratovic and he is Serbian Croatian! Not a good combination through 90's, something that made him leave his country and come in Greece as an immigrant. My comment here is that we got lucky to have him here. It wasn't easy for him at the beginning because the obstacles were too many, but if you are talented and you love what you do then you can override everything.

I like so much his style in illustration and he can draw a portrait like it's real. In his personal blog you can admire samples of his illustrations and his lettering! His blog. Do not hesitate to visit it.

Sustainable design!

While i was stumbling on the net i found a very interesting website about designers and sustainability. We all here and talk about the environmental disaster and the impact that this has on our lives.

As you will read on this site, designers are a part of this disaster with what you sometimes do. The Design can change makes suggestions how your studio will become more sustainable. I believe that our job can help change things around environment, but first we have to change the way we work and be more eco friendly.

Read this site and you will find interesting tips that can help to turn our studios to ecological studios!

4th International Conference of Typography & Visual Communication

On 17, 18 & 19  June 2010 the Department of Design and Multimedia of the university of Nicosia Cyprus will be hosting the 4th International Conference of Typography & Visual Communication (ICTVC) with general theme "Leading Grace to Language".
The ICTVC has already three successful international meetings (2002, 2004, 2007) in Thessaloniki Greece and now it moved to Nicosia Cyprus.

24th International Biennial of Graphic Design // Brno 2010

A great opportunity for every graphic designer to participate with his work in the 24th Biennial of Brno. Biennial is about corporate identity, poster, informational andadvertising design.

Let me introduce you to this Biennial with a small resume. It first started in 1963 and that's why it's the oldest exhibition of graphic design in the world. Every Biennial take place every two years and alternates between two subjects. This year's is dedicated to corporate identity, informational and advertising graphics while the 2012 Biennial will focus on type in books, magazines, newspapers and digital media.

During the Biennial and apart from the main competition will feature a specialist symposium and a number of interesting events something that makes Brno the center of graphic design and contemporary art for the next 4 months.

Can design feel?

How would you react if your wallpaper change colour when it's heated? Or if your calendar was fading away during the day? And a poster was getting the feelings you have when you touch it.

Personally, i would be surprised!

Designer Shi Yuan creates passive things like those i mentioned above, to something special and alive with only "weapon" heat sensitive paint.

I would pick the calendar if you asked me. 
I believe you can do great thing with design and create feeling with what you are creating. This kind of innovate design makes me feel proud being a designer my self, even if i am in the early beginning.

100 χρόνια Ρίτσος

Η Ένωση Γραφιστών Ελλάδας, τα Δημιουργικά Κύματα και το Εθνικό Ίδρυμα Ερευνών, διοργανώνουν σχεδιασμό αφίσας με αφορμή τα 100 χρόνια από τη γέννηση του μέγαλου Έλληνα ποιητή Γιάννη Ρίτσου.Καλούνται όλοι οι σχεδιαστές οπτικής επικοινωνίας να σχεδιάσουν μια ή και περισσότερες αφίσες με θέμα "Αφιέρωμα στο Γιάννη Ρίτσο - 100 χρόνια από τη γέννησή του".

Οι σχεδιαστές έχουν μέχρι τις 6 Δεκεμβρίου 2009 να σχεδιάσουν τη συμμετοχή τους. Θα υπάρξει ειδική επιτροπή που θα επιλέξει τις καλύτερες και αυτές θα εκτεθούν στο Εθνικό Ίδρυμα Ερευνών από 17 - 31 Δεκεμβρίου.

Την ημέρα των εγκαινίων στις 17.12.2009 θα διοργανωθεί αφιέρωμα στον Έλληνα ποιητή στα πλαίσια του των ειδικών μορφωτικών εκδηλώσεων του ΕΙΕ «Επιστήμης Κοινωνία». Το πρόγραμμα περιλαμβάνει προβολή ντοκυμαντέρ και άγνωστου αρχειακού υλικού, απαγγελίες ποιημάτων από γνωστούς ηθοποιούς και ερμηνεία μελοποιημένων ποιημάτων του, από τη Μαρία Φαραντούρη.

Γενική συνέλευση των μελών της Ένωσης Γραφιστών Ελλάδας

Το Σάββατο 21 Νοεμβρίου και ώρα 16:30 στα γραφεία της Ένωσης Γραφιστών Ελλάδας, θα πραγματοποιηθεί η ετήσια γενική συνέλευση των μελών της.
Στη συνέλευση θα συζητηθεί το έργο της Ένωσης μέχρι σήμερα, οι δράσεις και οι άλλαγες που προγραμματίζονται. Μέρος στις αποφάσεις, άρα δικαίωμα ψήφου, έχουν τα μέλη που είναι τακτοποιημένα οικονομικά μέχρι και την ημέρα πραγματοποιήσης της συνέλευσης. Στη συζήτηση βέβαια μπορούν να συμμετέχουν όσοι από τους φίλους της Ένωσης το επιθυμούν χωρίς δικαίωμα ψήφου.

Τα γραφεία της Ένωσης Γραφιστών Ελλάδας βρίσκονται στην οδό Μυλλέρου 19, Πλατεία Αυδή, Μεταξουργείο.

Creative Waves..New deadline 25th of November

After the posters for "The world day of childrens rights", Dimiourgika Kimata  gave a new theme now and a new deadline. Now designer have to create a poster for "The world day of person with disabilities". A lot of people with disabilities having difficulties to get on a bus, go to cinema and watch a movie, go for a walk with their wheelchair or guide dogs without afraid getting hit by a car or because someone maybe parked his/her car on the pavement. All these you can make it a poster and sent it until 25th of November.

Social Design from Greek Graphic Designers Association

Social design is something that graphic designers, illustrators and other can use to give a message to the rest of the world for social problems with a creative angle.

For this purpose Greek Graphic Designers Association created an action called Dimiourgika Kimmata (Creative Waves) so it can promote social design in Greece too. Through their website give a variety of issues that you can put your creative hands on. There is deadline for each one issue and at the end uploaded in their webpage. Everyone can participate, it's not a competition and there is no fee.

So check it out and be part of this!

Another award for Chris Trivizas design studio

Greek desing studio Chris Trivizas won another award. This time is the American Design Awards. Chris Trivizas' studio currently working with small clients or companies in Greece but thats not an issue for them as they have won major awards for their impressive works.

The took the 1st place in self promotion category with "Hartobalotof".

Another price is for the menu of Romeo & Juliet! A great logo and a greater menu

Bottom line for my point of view it's that you don't always big clients with bgger budget to design sometning unique and ChrisTrivizas studio is an example for this.
