Europe by Designers

EUROPE BY DESIGNERS is an international artistic project whose aim is to unveil a multitude of images of Europe from the inside and from the outside. Design as the expression of a cultural vision, a political vision or a simple and unposed feeling... Design and its diversity as a new way to catch Europe.

THEME:
Designers, illustrators, photographers, design studios, collectives/crews, agencies... you are all welcome to submit an innovative, creative, exciting, personal and experimental work around the theme: "Europe : what does Europe mean to you?". We are expecting diversity and freestyle : all styles of outstanding visual media are welcome. Selected works will be featured online and, hopefully, through future exhibitions and book.

NO ENTRY FEE IS REQUIRED.

Traditional art and architecture on Karpathos Island

On the island of Karpathos, of the Dodecanese, a museum, in pragamtikotita is a traditional home, the Museum Vassilis Chatzivasili. The museum is located in a mountainous village called Olympus.
Let us say a few words first about the village.
The village of Olympus, is one of the few villages where people live almost in the traditional way of life as their forefathers. To reach someone in the village, should lead to about an hour from Pigadia (capital of the island) on the road with asphalt and dirt road. The visitor will see a village with a registered trademark of the clouds and permanent place in the mountainside. The past years the link with the rest of the island was by boats, which had many risks because of long distance and the weather. The Karpathos is the second largest island in the Dodecanese after Rhodes and has the deeper seas of the Mediterranean. Women, at least the older, still dresses in the traditional costume of Karpathos and try to maintain this way ntysimatos despite the new customs brought by connecting the village to the island by road. Of course the road has helped to bring more tourists. Certainly the most young have broken the tradition and those who have left the village, bear little difference from the rest of the young season.
Years old then, most men were sailors and fishermen, so the longer missing at sea. Women therefore epomyzontan jobs and home, bringing up children and of course the care of the earth.
At issue now of art and architecture. The Karpathiotes therefore had a special way to build their homes. First and left parents and children slept together. They had built a bed, called wise and which was yperipsomeno and below were closets for storage space. This was also the main house. The toilet was outside the house as a separate room. These two rooms were the main house. But here comes the art. Everything in the house and the ceilings were painted and every home was separate those painted and characteristics of each family. Also in every home had its own separate and chtista bars, which instead of being stained with paint, painted with color as the tables. The same is true for the Madres.
But there were not many to make this art. One of them then started to make such decorative and then for his own pleasure first started to do and tables. And later received orders to them. All of these tools and some drafts of up and integrated projects, and traditional woven will find the Museum Chatzivasili the Olympus of Karpathos. The museum is the same Chatzivasili his home and held by the zeal and love for the son of the place and art that existed there.

The Greek Graphic Designers Association need a loan!

The offices of the Greek Graphic Association burned down in the 25th of June. Almost everything burned, an exhibition that was running at the offices, our computers, books, magazines, t-shirts and more from GGDA's shop. Also we lost the brainstorm room (the toilet of course!). Walls and floors were in a bad shape too. Although after a lot of hard and personal work in the middle of the summer from members and friends of the GGDA we are almost ready for the new season as you can read here (only those who can read greek for now) and preparing for our opening. Though the needs of the association and the expenses run all the time. At this moment our needs are economic, so we designed five buttons about the fire which are for sale 25€ each. Every button is numbered and from the 1st of February you can bring the buttons you've bought and get your money back and that's a promise.

If you don't want to buy all or none of these buttons and still want help the GGDA, there is a way. Επαναλειτουργούν τα γραφεία της Ένωσης Γραφιστών Ελλάδας

Επαναλειτουργούν από τις 29 Σεπτεμβρίου τα γραφεία της Ένωσης Γραφιστών Ελλάδας, στην οδό Μυλλέρου 19, που παρέμεναν κλειστά, μετά τις ζημιές που είχαν προκληθεί από την φωτιά της 25ης Ιουνίου 2008.
Οι ζημιές αποκαταστάθηκαν, η αίθουσα ανανεώθηκε και το πρόγραμμα των εκδήλώσεων για το τελευταίο τρίμηνο του 2008, θα ανακοινωθεί την πρώτη εβδομάδα του Οκτωβρίου.
Η Γραμματεία της Ένωσης, λειτουργεί κάθε μέρα από Δευτέρα μέχρι Πέμπτη από τις 18:00 μέχρι τις 21:00 (τηλ.: 210 522 4813).

Το Διοικητικό Συμβούλιο θέλει να ευχαριστήσει τους συναδέλφους και τα μέλη της Ένωσης, για την συμπαράσταση και την σημαντική βοήθεια που πρόσφεραν, ιδιαίτερα κατά το πρώτο διάστημα της αποκατάστασης της αίθουσας.

Jan Bons, a designer's freedom
Ο Δημήτρης Θ. Αρβανίτης μιλάει για τον πρωτοπόρο Ολλάνδό σχεδιαστή Jan Bons, με την ευκαιρία των 90στων γενεθλίων του και την έκδοση του βιβλίου του Paul Hefting που περιέχει και την ταινία του Lex Reitsma, «Jan Bons, a designer's freedom».
Μετά την αναφορά στο έργο και τη ζωή του, θα γίνει προβολή της ταινίας διάρκειας 55'.
Η βραδιά θα συνεχιστεί, με μουσική, ποτό και μεζέδες.

Οι νέοι δημιουργούν για τη ζωή

Κάθε μέρα μπορεί να είναι ένα νέο ξεκίνημα στη ζωή, όπως και η αρχή κάθε νέας χρονιάς.
Έτσι φέτος, το Graphic Arts Calendar 2009 αφιερώνει τις εισαγωγικές σελίδες του κάθε μήνα, στη «ζωή».
Ο διαγωνισμός διοργανώνεται από την Ένωση Γραφιστών Ελλάδος σε συνεργασία με την Graphic Arts και απευθύνεται σε νέους σχεδιαστές έως 30 ετών, και σπουδαστές των σχολών γραφιστικής.

Οι σχεδιαστές που θα συμμετέχουν καλούνται να σχεδιάσουν για τη «ζωή». Η έννοια της «ζωής», μια έννοια ιδιαίτερα ευρεία, μπορεί να χρησιμοποιηθεί κυριολεκτικά ή μεταφορικά, να είναι η αφορμή ή ο κεντρικός άξονας του έργου, δίνει την δυνατότητα στον κάθε διαγωνιζόμενο να χρησιμοποιήσει ελεύθερα την φαντασία του και να επιλέξει όποια πτυχή τον εκφράζει καλύτερα, χωρίς όρια και χωρίς περιορισμούς. Η ζωή σαν ίδέα, σα σύμβολο, ή και σαν ύλη ακόμα μπορεί να αντιμετωπιστεί με απεριόριστους τρόπους πετυχαίνοντας έτσι τη δημιουργία μοναδικών και αξιόλογων έργων. Η χρήση τίτλων ή κειμένων είναι στη διακριτική ευχέρεια του κάθε σχεδιαστη.
Τα 24 έργα (κατ' ανώτατο όριο) που θα ξεχωρίσουν για την πρωτοτυπία της ιδέας σε σχέση με το θέμα, τη δημιουργική έκφραση, την αρτιότητα της εκτέλεσης και τη γενικότερη καλλιτεχνική αισθητική τους, θα δημοσιευτούν στο Graphic Arts Calendar 2009.
Όλες οι συμμετοχές θα αναρτηθούν στην ιστοσελίδα της Ένωσης Γραφιστών Ελλάδας, και θα εκτεθούν στην αίθουσα των γραφείων της.
Στο διαγωνισμό μπορεί να συμμετάσχει κάποιος με ένα ή δύο έργα.
Η τεχνική που θα χρησιμοποιηθεί είναι ελεύθερη (γραφιστική σύνθεση, ζωγραφική, illustration, φωτογραφία, κολάζ, κλπ.).
Tα διαγωνιζόμενα έργα θα πρέπει να έχουν διάσταση (καθαρό): 16,5Χ 24cm ή 33Χ24cm (λαμβάνοντας όμως υπόψιν ότι η βιβλιοδεσία του ημερολογίου είναι σπιράλ πάχους 2cm, στο κέντρο της σύνθεσης).
Τα τελικά αρχεία θα πρέπει να είναι αρχεια eps, jpeg, tif ή pdf, CMYK, ανάλυσης 300 dpi και δεν θα πρέπει να ξεπερνούν τα 10ΜΒ.
Οι διαγωνιζόμενοι μπορούν να δηλώσουν συμμετοχή και να αποστείλουν τα έργα τους στο στο info@gda.gr με την ένδειξη «ΖΩΗ». Οι συμμετοχές θα γίνονται δεκτές έως 30 Οκτωβρίου 2008.
Μαζί με την συμμετοχή, (στο ίδιο mail) θα πρέπει οι διαγωνιζόμενοι να συμπεριλάβουν τα στοιχεία του δημιουργού (Επώνυμο, Όνομα, Έτος Γέννησης, Διεύθυνση, Τηλέφωνο, Ε-mail) καθώς και την πρόταση «Το έργο αποτελεί πρωτότυπη δική μου δουλειά, την οποία παραχωρώ στην Graphic Arts για δημοσίευση στο ημερολόγιο του 2009 που εκδίδει». Εναλλακτικά οι συμμετοχές μπορουν να κατατεθούν ή να αποσταλλούν μέχρι και την 30 Οκτωβρίου 2008 και στα γραφεία της Ένωσης. (Μυλλέρου 19, 104 36, Μεταξουργείο Αθήνα)
Τα έργα θα επιλεγούν από κριτική επιτροπή που θα ανακοινωθεί το επόμενο διάστημα, και θα αποτελείται από σχεδιαστές, μέλη της Ένωσης Γραφιστών Ελλάδας και το Graphic Arts Calendar 2009.
Για διευκόλυνση της κριτικής επιτροπής καλό θα ήταν να αποσταλεί και ένα αρχείο χαμηλής ανάλυσης.

Hallo again after a long time. I made big changes in my life, through the last few months. The biggest and most important is that i quit my job as junior art in an greek advertising company so i can focus to my freelance career. That step was made and now i am trying to expand my network and collaborations. I also found free time to do things for my seld and participate in art competitions.

Also i participated in the greek graphic design association (www.ggda.gr, www.ggdablog.gr) as member of the administrative council so i can help the designer in Greece and make popular the good Greek graphic design.

Eventually i decide to start writing in my blog. The most stuff it will be about design and another part news from the GGDA and some artwork of mine.
